Westminster

The client was the management board of the residence and design presentations were made to the full board. We were asked to rethink the planting scheme for this prestigious apartment complex located in the heart of Westminster. The building was constructed at the height of the Art Deco period in 1936 and this was factored in to a strongly geometric design with a bold scheme.

The brief for this shady area was to create a bright scheme which could hold its own against the nine storey building. We chose to show the residents how yellow could be used to dramatic effect giving the illusion of sunlight in the space.

A larger design was create for the space and some parts have been implemented. The rest of the design is on hold until building work has been completed

Chelsea Wharf

The brief for this project was given by the managing agency acting on behalf of the Duke for Bedford Estates. The brief was to provide planting design services to refresh five outsized planters (4m x 1.5m each) located at ground level within the Chelsea Wharf offices. The existing stained timber planters whilst still in good condition did not compliment the site and were not ‘ageing’ very well. The current planting scheme was a mixture and lacked impact against a building of this size. We agreed the planters should be retained but upgraded and the planting scheme should have a full refresh.

We designed a scheme which modernised the containers using a grey green farrow and ball paint colour. This also in colour created some relevance between the containers and the industrial origins of the main commercial building and united the space through colour. We felt the space also some vertical height and added four multi-stemmed white barked birch trees for year round interest with a bold planting scheme underneath of fresh greens and accents of orange flowers. Overall the scheme became light and modern and created a courtyard feel to the space.

This scheme was implemented recently and photos to come in the next few months.
